Our school was officially opened on 5 November 1960. The school is situated on a hillside overlooking Blackmans Bay and the River Derwent, and provides an educational facility in which the children, the teachers, the parents and the local community can take pride. There was an enrolment of just over 100 when our school opened - 65 boys and 48 girls. Since then predictions about increasing enrolments have proved correct with more families moving into the growing suburb. In 1975 the kindergarten and preparatory classes were built to cater for the younger children in the district. School development has continued over the years. New classrooms, administration areas, a new hall and canteen, as well as an extension to the library has ensured that students have a comfortable and interesting learning environment. The Blackmans Bay Childcare Centre has also relocated to the Blackmans Bay campus providing a wide range of child care services. In 1993 the Kingston Beach Kindergarten became part of Blackmans Bay School. The day-to-day matters of the kindergarten are handled by the staff on that campus. Administrative and management issues are handled through the Blackmans Bay School Office. This enables the school to provide both small and large campus options for students in kindergarten and prep. Projected enrolments are approximately 460, with 415 students at the Blackmans Bay Campus.
